This project is part of the country’s climate change adaptation strategy and aims to ensure potable water supply through optimization and extension of the water supply system as well as measures in the field of sanitation in the rural communities of the Cuenca canton. The project comprised water intakes, potable water treatment plants, water reservoirs, distribution networks, energy supply, SCADA systems, wastewater collectors and sewers.

Technical data

  • Target population: 60,000 inhabitants in the rural communities Quingeo, Santa Ana, Cumbe, Tarqui and El Valle in the Cuenca canton and 250,000 inhabitants in the city of Cuenca
  • Water intakes and potable water mains
  • Optimization and extension of the El Cebollar potable water treatment plant with a design capacity of 1,000 l/s
  • Potable water treatment plant and water reservoir for the regional project Moya
  • Water conduits, intermediate pumping stations and distribution networks with diameters up to 500 mm
  • Wastewater collectors and sewers with a length of 17 km
